EVAT Meets UK Trade Envoy to Strengthen EV Industry Collaboration

On Wednesday, 26th February 2025, the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand (EVAT) had the honor of meeting with the UK’s Trade Envoy to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos to discuss Thailand’s burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) industry.

The meeting was attended by key figures from EVAT, including Suroj Sangsnit (President of EVAT), Associate Professor Dr. Yossapong Laoonual (Honorary Chairman and Advisor), Krisda Utamote (Honorable Advisor), Assistant Professor Dr. Uthane Supatti (Vice President for Academic & Human Development), Tamonwan Cholpratin (Vice President for Information, Communication & Public Relations), and Dr. Wisawat Keaswejjareansuk (Sustainable Project Manager).

They were hosted by Matt Western MP, the UK’s Trade Envoy to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, along with Rhiannon Harris (Deputy Trade Commissioner for Asia Pacific (Southeast Asia), Ben Morley (Commercial Counsellor and Department for Business & Trade Thailand Country Director), Anna Pearson (Economic & Sustainable Development Counsellor), Tad Fon Kho (Trade & Investment Manager), and Sukontip Pinso (Climate Officer) at His Majesty’s UK Ambassador to Thailand’s Residence.

During the discussion, Dr. Yossapong Laoonual shared insights on Thailand’s EV status and trends, highlighting the significant business opportunities available. The bilateral conversation also explored collaboration opportunities in skill development and the EV supply chain, which promise to benefit the automotive industries of both nations.

This meeting marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to deepen collaborations, especially as we celebrate the 170th anniversary of UK-Thai diplomatic relations this year. Thailand’s longstanding partnership with the UK spans various sectors, and we are excited to continue building on this foundation to achieve mutual growth and innovation.
