EVAT announces policies aiming to develop charging consortium and energy storage system
On August 28, 2020 at 10 A.M. at the Knowledge Exchange:KX, the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand, led by Krisda Utamote, President of EVAT, announced the organization’s operational plan in supporting Thailand’s electric automotive industry. Also present at the press conference were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pongpan Kaewtatip (Vice President for Research), Mr. Sanpetch Tangsawapark (Vice President for Industry), Asst. Prof. Uthane Supatti, Ph.D (Vice Prsident for Academics), Mr. Chantakorn David Champsilp (Vice President for Promotion of EV Usage). The tenure of the organization’s current board is from 2020 to 2022.
A total of 57 teams participated in the competition, with 48 teams in the institutional category and 9 teams in the general public category. The winners for each category were as follows:

- 1st Place Winner: S11 uttc auto team from Uttaradit Technical College, receiving a trophy and 100,000 THB in prize money.
- 1st Runner-up: S57 UTK-EV Conversion from Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep, receiving 50,000 THB.
- 2nd Runner-up: S48 Khunpol Ev bike from Khunpol Vocational College, receiving 30,000 THB.
General Public Category
- 1st Place Winner: G02 Black Maeta, receiving a trophy and 100,000 THB in prize money.
- 1st Runner-up: G07 T2D, receiving 50,000 THB.
- 2nd Runner-up: G05 Moto bike, receiving 30,000 THB.
Additionally, the S57 UTK-EV Conversion team from Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep received a Special Innovation Award and 30,000 THB for their development in the “Body and Swing Arm” category.
Perspectives from Organizers and Partners
Ms. Ketsana Maharattanawong, Assistant Director of EGAT’s Power Usage Administration and Social Affairs Department, highlighted that EGAT has continuously supported the contest for the second year. She noted that the event helps raise awareness about environmental issues and aligns with EGAT’s mission to promote clean energy and reduce air pollution.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Seree Kunjaenak, Vice President of Kasetsart University, Sriracha Campus, expressed his delight in hosting the event. He emphasized that the contest supports both human resource development and the use of environmentally friendly vehicles, which is crucial for reducing PM2.5 pollution. The university’s participation reflects its policy to become carbon neutral by 2035.
Mr. Krisda Utamote, President of EVAT, stated that with the number of EV registrations growing exponentially in Thailand, there is a crucial need to nurture talent in the EV sector. He thanked all partners for their collaboration in creating opportunities for new careers and income streams related to the future of the EV industry.
The competition featured a rigorous scoring system, including technical checkpoints and on-track performance tests, to evaluate acceleration, energy consumption, hill climbing, and braking distance. Scores were also given for business plans and conversion costs, ensuring a comprehensive assessment of the teams’ projects.
